| Anisotropic emission of gravitational waves (GWs) from inspiralling compact binaries leads to the loss of linear momentum and hence gravitational recoil of the system. In this talk, I shall present 2.5PN computations of the loss rate of linear momentum from nonspinning inspiralling compact binary systems in quasi-circular orbits. I shall also show, how these results can be used to estimate recoil velocities accumulated during the inspiral and the plunge phase of binary's evolution. |
